Can we all just get along?
The other day I was on one of the Facebook sites for customizing RC cars and one of the guys made a radical change to a rare car. A lot of the other guys on the site were giving him a real hard time for the mods he made. The guy spent a lot of time trying to justify what he did and ended up eventually leaving the group.
I don't get how people who say they are here to promote the hobby can criticize someone just for trying something different. The modifications he made didn't hurt anyone and they actually looked good. I commend him for thinking outside the box. After all, the custom side of this hobby is all about taking chances and doing something unique.
In the old days, hot rodders and customizers did things that not everyone agreed with. They got a lot of grief over their choices. Those guys have turned out to be the ones everyone is trying to imitate now. I respect those who try to follow their lead by blazing their own trail.
People will look at what I do and either love it or hate it. And if I decide to cut up a rare RC car, that is my choice. I own it. I have already weighed the pros and cons, and will accept the end result, whatever that may be. I've had pretty good luck with my ideas so far, enough luck that I don't plan on changing my MO anytime soon.
